Benice Village
Prague, Czech Republic

Benice Village is located outside of Prague in an area designated for compact mixed-use development. As a Partner of Cooper Robertson & Partners, Marc Wouters served as design lead for several of the homes, mixed-use buildings, and the final Village Center plan. The homes are designed to combine modern details with traditional massing. Traditional steep pitched roofs are combined with modern metal balconies. The homes include multiple sustainable design features including super insulation and heating systems with 100% fresh air and heat recovery systems. Also included are rain cisterns to conserve potable water, highly efficient energy and water systems, and local materials. The planning of the village is designed to dramatically reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions through its pedestrian-oriented planning and through creation of its own biomass power plant.
