Columbia Town Center
Columbia, MD

Columbia, Maryland is a new community planned by James Rouse in the 1960’s.  The town center he envisioned never fully emerged.  Howard County has planned to transform the current suburban shopping mall and office buildings into a pedestrian and transit-oriented town center for the county.  Suburban parking lots are to be transformed into five neighborhoods that include residential side streets and mixed-use main streets. As a Partner of Cooper Robertson & Partners, Marc Wouters served as project manager for the final phase of master plan design. The plan may ultimately include over 1 million sf of retail, over 4 million sf of office, and over 5000 residential units. A cultural center focused around the Merriweather Post Concert Pavilion will include a new library, civic uses, and additional venues for the arts.
